

This B17 was the first of three surplus bombers that Charlie Winters purchased. The second and third
are the ones referenced in the story below. Once exiting prison and regaining possession of his planes,
he used them for transporting produce to San Juan and later Havana. Apparently Fidel Castro liked
US warbirds also, giving my father an ultimatum, observe his planes from a cuban jail cell
or to leave the country without them...
